A door closer comprising a frame mounting plate 11, adjuster plate 12, actuator assembly 30 with operating rod (32) coupled to the adjuster plate via a link 20, the actuator assembly is mountable within the hinge side edge of a door. In a first aspect the link extends from the adjuster plate along a first axis and the frame mounting plate includes slots elongated orthogonally to the first axis. There may be two links and two operating rods, the links may pivotally couple to protruding pins 21 and there may be a screw 13 for adjusting the separation distance between frame mounting plate and adjuster plate, plates 11, 12 can be secured together by threaded fasteners 14. Preferably the fasteners 14, screw 13, pins 21 pass through the slots which provided clearance allowing vertical adjustment. The door leaf mounting plate 24 may include lateral extending slots around the link rod 20. Also claimed is a door closer wherein the link is less than 40mm in length.
