The shoot bolt 124 comprises a face plate 130 and a shoot bolt bar 134, the shoot bolt having a longitudinal axis (A-A) and the shoot bolt bar being movable longitudinally relative to the face plate. The shoot bolt has a shoot bolt tip 138 which can project beyond a corner element 142. The shoot bolt also has an extension piece 60 mounted to move with the shoot bolt bar, the extension piece having an extension tip 66 which also projects beyond the corner element. The extension tip may be offset from the bolt tip in the Y and Z directions. The extension tip is located alongside the shoot bolt tip. The shoot bolt allows use of a window in separate modes such as a night vent mode. The shoot bolt can be used in conjunction with a gearbox to form a locking mechanism.
