The unit has a mounting bush 18 for locating in a blind tube, a sprocket wheel 12 for engagement with a chain, each having through bore for mounting to an axel 22, a chain guard 16 movable between a closed position in which it at least partially encloses the sprocket wheel and an open position in which the sprocket wheel is exposed for mounting a chain to the sprocket wheel. The chain guard is resiliently biased towards the closed position and the control unit has a push button mechanism 80 operative to move the chain guard to the open position against the bias force. The push button mechanism 80 may include a latch (146, Fig. 9) configured to alternately lock the chain guard in the open position against the resilient bias force and to release the chain guard for movement to the closed position on successive actuations of the push button mechanism.
