The profile is a frame member 10 for a sliding sash window having laterally offset longitudinally extending first and second mounting channels 42,90 and a longitudinally extending installation 54 channel between the first and second channels, the member including a stiffener cavity 50 for receiving a stiffening member 52 adjacent the installation cavity. The member may be provided with an elongate installation cover 70,72 mountable over the installation channel. Also claimed is a method of installation, wherein fasteners are passed through holes formed in the installation channel and stiffening member into the underlying wall, and the cover is fastened over the channel to conceal the fasteners. The cover may be provided with a seal member engageable with a window sash in use, and may be secured in the channel by snap fit means. Also claimed is a sash window including the frame member. The member may be a plastic extrusion.
