A double glazed window having a solar heat pump assembly positioned between the two panes of glass. The heat pump assembly comprises a header tanks 9, 10 that are connected by thermal absorption pipes 11, and insulation panes 16 (22,21 fig 2). Fluid is pumped into the header tank 10 via an inlet pipe 13 and passes through the absorption pipes 11 to a header tank 9 prior to leaving the window via the outlet pipe 12. When the fluid is in the absorption pipes 11, the fluid absorbs radiation energy from the sun or other source. The energy absorbed by the fluid is extracted/stored by external systems. The fluid may be circulated by an external pump or by the actions of thermosyphon. Insulation panes cover the outside edge of the heat pump assembly. The window panes by be transparent or translucent. Preferably the thermal absorption pipes 11 are of sufficient mechanical strength to provide security to the window.
