Door locking device providing emergency access
A locking device for a door of a cubicle, comprising a fixed base section 20 provided at the side wall 112; and a retractable section, e.g. the pilaster 30 of the cubicle, which is moveable from a first position where extends from the base section to prevent movement of the door in either direction from a closed position, to an emergency use position in which the door is free to pivot in both directions, the device inhibiting lateral movement of the door relative to the locking device when the door is in a closed position. Preferably the inhibiting is a result of a protrusion mounted on the pilaster e.g. a bump 50 and the door which engage with each other if the door panel is attacked, e.g. kicked. The pilaster may be biased into the closed position by a spring and there may be a stop to prevent it from moving. The fixed section may have a guide having notches 44 which engage with a retaining pin 40 to hold the pilaster in the open or closed position. There may be two locking devices back to back with a gap between the pilasters.
