Operating mechanism for a window covering
An operating mechanism 30 comprising a stationary support structure 31, a rotatable winding spool and a drive wheel 2 connected rotatably and detachably in an area enclosed by the support structure. There is provided a canopy 3 connected to and independently rotatable relative to the drive wheel that at least partially encloses a chain 4. The canopy leaves a continuous gap (17, fig 1) clear for feeding the chain onto an engagement surface (5, fig 1) of the drive wheel. The gap has a maximum width larger or equal to the minimum diameter of the chain. The canopy may be elastically deformable to permit the gap width to adapt. The mechanism may be provided as part of a window, and a method is disclosed for installing the mechanism. The mechanism prevents injury to children by releasing from the support structure without detaching small components which pose a choking hazard.
