A shower hose 1 formed of a polymeric material and which is helical and returns to shape once an applied tension is removed. The hose may be formed from an elastomer such as thermoplastic polyurethane and it may be opaque or black which harms microorganisms that benefit from light. It may have fittings 2 and 3 at both ends which may be integral to the hose or metallic. The inlet fitting may be for attaching to a shower outlet; the outlet fitting may be for attachment to a shower head. The hose is used for a method of showering an invalid where a tension is applied to the hose to at least partially straighten it and where the turns of the hose move towards one another when the tension is released. A use of the hose is also for disrupting or preventing a biofilm on an internal surface of the hose.
