A hard flooring strip 10 of durable plastic having fine barbs 11 on both sides of the strip. The barbs are between 2.5mm and 7mm in width and the strip has a depth of 20mm. Preferably the strip fits between floorboards (12, fig 1) such that the barbs hold it in position to stop the floorboards creaking. The strip may be installed by tapping into the gap either side of a creaking floorboard. The strip is preferably used with de-tongued or square-edged floorboards.
