There is provided a protective barrier 22 for use on stairs comprising at least one panel l0 integrally formed with an attachment portion (12 figure 1) for attaching to a rail and a skirt portion (16 figure 1), wherein the attachment portion (12 figure 1) is connected to the skin portion (16 figure 1) using a laterally extending portion (14 figure 1). The attachment portion (12 figure 1) is formed as an inverted channel (18 figure 2).
