A self-adjusting spacer device comprising: a bushing (Fig 3c) with a cavity having a flange member 26, and at least one internal first coupling member; a pin (Fig 4a), having a shank portion with at least two partially circumferentially threaded portions 37, and at least one second coupling member (39 Fig 4c) to engage with the internal first coupling member to allow translational but prevent rotational movement of the pin relative to the bushing; a locking member (Fig 5c) having a bore 48 with at least two internal partially circumferentially threaded portions, where in use the bushing, pin and locking member are all coaxial, and the locking member is coupled to the bushing via a coupling mechanism allowing rotational movement but not translational movement (e.g. via tooth 42 running in a slot in the bushing), and the spacer having an adjustable position where the threaded portions not engage and the pin can move axially within the locking member to the set height and a locking position where said threaded portions engage. The spacer is for use on a vehicle, e.g. to ensure suitable closing of a bonnet or hood on a car.
