A device for removing fats, oils and/or grease (FOGs) from water
A filter 44 for removing fats, oils and/or grease (FOGs) from water comprises a first perforated layer (51, Fig 9C); a second perforated layer (52, Fig 9C) comprising polyester; a third perforated layer (53, Fig 9C) comprising polyester impregnated with carbon; a fourth perforated layer (54, Fig 9C) comprising granular activated carbon bonded together and wrapped in polyester; and a fifth perforated layer (55, Fig 9C). The layers are encased by a perforated casing (50, Fig. 9C). Suitably, the fourth layer has a smaller average pore diameter than the third layer, and the third layer may have a smaller average pore diameter than the second layer. The granular activated carbon can be bonded together by adhesive. The second layer may be formed from non-woven thermally bonded polyester layers. A device for removing FOGs from water comprises a water inlet 4; a separator for removing FOGs from water under gravity; the filter for removing the remaining FOGs; and a water outlet 46. The separator comprises a chamber 2 with a weir plate 8. A method of using the device is also claimed, wherein water contaminated by FOGs is received by the inlet at a flow rate of 1.5 litres per second.
