A lock 10 has a hook 20 and a locking finger 40 to form a locking hoop. The locking finger can be pivoted to disengage from the hook to open the lock. The pivotal movement of the locking finger is controlled by a latch 150. A latch-controlling mechanism 50 prevents movement of the latch in a first locked position and enables its movement in a second unlocked position. A spindle 70 moves between a first position in which it keeps the latch-controlling mechanism in a locked position and a second position in which it allows it to move to an unlocked position. The spindles movement is governed by a combination mechanism comprising dials 90 and clutches 80. A key overriding-mechanism allows the latch-controlling mechanism to enter the unlocked position while the spindle is still in a first position (fig.13).
