Method of processing polycrystalline diamond material
A method of removing catalyst/solvent material (e.g. cobalt, nickel or iron) from polycrystalline diamond (PCD) material by exposing at least a portion of the PCD material to a leaching mixture which comprises hydrofluoric acid at a concentration of 12M to 28M, nitric acid at a molar concentration of 3M to 10M and water. Leaching can be performed with the leaching mixture at a temperature in the range 40-100 0C, or at a temperature above its boiling point. The leaching mixture can comprise 10-80 % hydrofluoric acid, 10-80 % nitric acid and 10-40 % water. Leaching can also remove tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, niobium carbide, tantalum carbide, zirconium carbide, molybdenum carbide, chromium carbide and/or vanadium carbide.
