An apparatus 101 for providing a safety shield extending between an electrical back box 201 and an electrical accessory 204 comprises surrounding member 102 103 comprising a supporting wall and a flange 113 extending outwardly from said supporting wall. The supporting wall defines an aperture 112, and the flange is formed continuously around the perimeter of the aperture. The surrounding member may comprise first and second surround portions 102 103 which are removably attachable as two identical halves with attachment means 117. A protective cover for the electrical accessory 204 may be releasably attached to the flange 113.
