Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride material
Polycrystalline cubic boron nitride which comprises (by volume): 40-95 % cubic boron nitride (cBN) particles and 5-60 % binder. The binder comprises aluminium oxide or a titanium compound and either an oxynitride (AlON) or a combination of an oxide and one of HfN, VN and/or NbN. The material can be made by milling together powders of cBN, Al2O3 and one of HfN, Vn and NbN, compacting the milled powders and sintering at a temperature in the range 1250-2200 0C at a pressure in the range 4.0-8.5 GPa.
