Removable spacer
The tile substrate assembly includes an array of tiles 3bonded to a substrate and is formed by a method. The method of forming the substrate comprises arranging the tiles in an array on the substrate 2, bonding the tiles to the substrate wherein the tiles are separated by spacers 4. The spacers are then removed from the substrate by physically or chemically altering the structure of the spacer material. In particular the assembly is for a reactor lining armour of a nuclear fusion reactor and faces plasma. The spacers may be removed using a solvent, such as water, reacting to the spacer but may also react with an acid or alkali. Also claimed are a tile substrate assembly obtainable from the method and a nuclear fusion reactor with the tile substrate. Additionally a substrate precursor is claimed with the spacer and an assembly with the spacer.
