A protective cover 101, for shielding a cavity from the ingress of plaster, concrete or paint etc. It comprises a cover portion 103, at least one securing portion 105a,b, to hold the cover in place, which comprises a coupling portion 106a,b that engages with a cavity feature and inhibits removal of the cover. The coupling portion may have an aperture 106a,b or recessed part that may have a notch, to engage with cavity features. The cover may be configured to be installed in an opening without a back box. The coupling portion may have flared portions which extend to different depths within the cavity. The protective cover may move or flex within the cavity and be installed at different depths. It may be generally flat and have a means for removing it from the cavity, such as an aperture 107. A method for protecting a cavity with the cover is also disclosed.
