A cavity closure for closing a cavity across a load bearing surface, the closure comprising a load bearing plate section 2 and a box section 4 extending from one side of the plate section, the box section in use extending into the cavity to be closed by the load bearing plate. The closure is preferably formed from mild galvanised steel with the box section welded to the plate section. The box section may have insulation material (10, fig 5) located within so the closure acts as a thermal brake. The invention provides a load-bearing surface to absorb downward pressure from heavy loads travelling over the plate when installed in a doorway.
