Railway Track Bed Strengthening
A method for strengthening a railway track bed structure 10 comprising a track of rails 11 and sleepers 12 supported on a track bed 13, supported above a subgrade 14. The method comprises inserting an injector 15 into the subgrade; and injecting chemically expanding geopolymer material 16 into the subgrade. The track bed may incorporate ballast 17. The geopolymer material may be a resin. The method may be used to fill a void or sink hole. The method may involve injecting the geopolymer material into an envelope of geotextile material, such as a woven or non-woven material made from plastic. The method may be performed at multiple positions along a railway, each position may involve the injection being performed at a different depth. The injector may be inserted between sleepers. The injector may be inserted below a sleeper. The injector may be in inserted at an angle to the vertical. The geopolymer is injected in-situ without removal of the railway infrastructure.
