A security window, with a perforated screen and that has first 101 and second window assemblies or panels, where the first assembly is attached to a first frame component 103 and the second window assembly slides between a closed and an open position. A ventilated security panel 201 is held in place by a second frame component 202 and a removable rail or element 801. A latching hook extends from the first window assembly 101 into an opening 802 in the removable element to become locked without the use of a key; a key is then required however to unlock it. The security panel may include first and second edges with a number of lugs which may fit into channels on the second frame component. A method of assembling the window is also disclosed.
