The window comprises a glazing unit including an inner pane 512 and an outer pane 514 arranged on an outer side of the glazing unit. A frame 550 surrounds an opening in a wall or roof. A thermal shield locatable between the frame and the opening. The thermal shield comprises a structural element configured to extend laterally into the opening from the frame, an insulation member 524 having lower thermal conductivity than said structural element, and a sealing member 549 to create a seal around the opening between the structural element and the inner pane of the glazing unit. The structural element includes: an inside lateral leg 522 fixed or arranged to be fixed to the frame and extending laterally inwardly into the opening therefrom; an outward leg 525 extending outwardly from the inside lateral leg toward the glazing unit; and an outside lateral leg 528 extending laterally inwardly into the opening from an outside end of the outward leg. The insulation member is enclosed on three sides by the legs and left exposed on one side. Further window assemblies, related thermal shields and methods of designing, manufacturing and installing the window assemblies are disclosed.
