A first invention relates to a method comprising determining a moment of inertia of a swing apparatus 11; determining a maximum allowable swing speed of a swing apparatus rotating about a swing axis 33, based on the determined moment of inertia and a predetermined maximum angular stopping displacement. The swing apparatus is limited to the maximum allowable swing speed. Preferably, the maximum swing speed is based on a determined brake torque. Preferably, the work vehicle 10 comprises at least one sensor and the moment of inertia is determined based on sensor data from the at least one sensor. Preferably, the sensor is a component position sensor, movement sensor, acceleration sensor, inertial measurement unit, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer or pressure sensor. A second invention relates to a controller that incorporates features of the first invention. A third invention relates to a work vehicle comprising a swing apparatus and the controller of the second invention.
