Leak and overfill detector
A level detector 100 for a tank, such as a toilet cistern 106, comprises a captive float 102 mounted within the tank and arranged to float at a known level when the liquid is in a known position, and an indication module 104 mountable on an external region of the tank in proximity to the float module allowing magnetic coupling therebetween. Magnetic coupling between the float and indication module is used to provide an indication on the sensor of the float position. A float magnet 112 may exert force to pull a sliding indication panel 122 up and down as the float moves, making different colour portions of the indicator visible through window 128. In an alternative embodiment, fig. 4, the float 402 comprises a metallic slug 408 and indication module 404 comprises a pair of electrical coils 410a-b which sense the position of metallic element 408. The indication module may indicate the level is at, below or above the correct level. An alert may be generated if the level is incorrect for a predetermined duration.
