A barrier structure (10) comprises a container (16) for receiving liquid. The container has a top (18) comprising at least one outlet, and front and rear external walls (12, 14) formed from self-supporting, flexible, resilient material. Internal walls (20) are located in the container between the front external wall (12) and the rear external wall (14) and are movable towards or away from either one or both of the front (12) and rear (14) external walls. The barrier structure provides protection against explosions and the like, and any projectiles, shrapnel and fires produced as a result.
