The present invention relates to a temporary bracket device which holds planks or similar items when they are being joined together. The device has at least two U shaped, open-faced channels, each having inner 3 and parallel outer 3 arms extending in a first plane; there is also a connecting end 8 in a second plane perpendicular to the first. The channels are arranged to fit a planar member snugly against inner faces of the arms and of the connecting end, so that two planar members are held at a joint extending on orthogonal axes away from the connecting end. At the joint there are one or more joint supports 7 in the first plane which include locations or holes 6 to enable fixing such as nails to pass into the end of a member. There may be a grip in the form of a ridge 2 on at least one arm and a rib 4 on an inner surface of an arm. The channel may have writing 1 indicating the member size the device is suitable for.
