A ladder adjustment mechanism; with first and second ladder attachment portions both with a pair of parallel longitudinal members with an end that engages a ladder 12, 24, and a hinge which provides rotation of the ladder attachment portions relative to one another. The ladder adjustment mechanism is movable between a stowed position in which a first plane defined by the first ladder adjustment portion extends substantially parallel to a second plane defined by the second ladder adjustment portion, and an operational position in which the first plane defined by the first ladder adjustment portion extends at a predetermined angle to the second plane defined by the second ladder adjustment portion. The operational position provides a continuous guide surface or a flat surface across the ladder adjustment mechanism. A ladder and a method of producing a ladder adjustment mechanism are also defined.
