PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication device which can downsize a portable device by abolishing or reducing operation buttons, while maintaining the function of the portable device.SOLUTION: An on-vehicle device transmits a communication signal to a portable device via an antenna. In the portable device owned by a user, based on a reception state of the received communication signal, when the portable device determines that the portable device is within a transmission area preset around the antenna, it creates reception information including the result and outputs it. Based on the reception information, the portable device creates communication state information including the result of determining whether or not communication with the on-vehicle device is possible. When an operation button is operated by the user, according to the communication state information, a different transmission code is generated with respect to the operation of the same operation button, and the transmission code is transmitted to the on-vehicle device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
