PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base isolator capable of stabilizing transformation even under high surface pressure, and preventing water from entering thereinside even in large transformation.SOLUTION: A base isolator includes: a base isolation laminate that is formed by alternately laminating a plurality of intermediate steel plates and rubber plates and joining them, and in which the side surface of the intermediate steel plate is arranged so as to project with respect to the side surface of the rubber plate; a connection steel plate that holds the base isolation laminate at both ends in a lamination direction of the laminate and is arranged so that the side surface of the connection steel plate projects with respect to the side surface of the base isolation laminate; and a protective rubber layer integrally covering a portion on the base isolation laminate side in the side surface of the connection steel plate and the side surface of the base isolation laminate.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
