PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous electrode base material capable of suppressing the worsening of a power generation performance owing to flooding by efficiently discharging water produced during power generation to outside a system, and hard to cause a defect in appearance, which has been demanded.SOLUTION: A porous electrode base material has a structure in which a crosslinking material binds carbon fibers (A). When X1>Y1, where "X1" is an opening area ratio of one surface layer plane X of the porous electrode base material, and "Y1" is an opening area ratio of the other surface layer plane Y, X1/Y1 is 1.10 or more, and X1-Y1 is 10% or more.SELECTED DRAWING: None
【課題】 発電時に生成する水を効率よく系外へ排水し、フラッティングによる発電性能の低下を抑制でき、かつ外観欠点が生じにくい多孔質電極基材が求められていた。【解決手段】 炭素繊維(A)が架橋材により接合された構造を有する多孔質電極基材であって、多孔質電極基材の一方の表層面Xの開口面積率を「X1」、他方の表層面Yの開口面積率を「Y1」として、「X1」>「Y1」のとき、「X1」/「Y1」が1.10以上、「X1」−「Y1」が10%以上、である、多孔質電極基材。【選択図】 なし
