To provide a damping system and a damping control method for reducing propagation of energy which vibrates a building due to earthquake motion to the building.SOLUTION: The damping system is a damping system for a building which forms a plurality of layers and comprises a stress adjustment unit which is disposed in a layer which reduces energy propagation due to earthquake motion and adjusts forces acting on the pillar of the layer, and a control unit which controls the stress adjustment unit so that a stress which cancels the restoring force of the pillar of the layer caused by the deformation of the layer acts on the pillar of the layer.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
