To provide a block for a retaining wall which has a simple structure, which has high strength, and into which mortar can be filled.SOLUTION: A block 10 for a retaining wall includes: a concrete earth retaining wall portion 11; and a concrete foundation portion 12 protruding in an L-shape with respect to the wall portion. A connection portion 13 connecting the wall portion with the foundation portion is provided, whose inner face is sloped or bent with substantially the same shape in first direction where the block for a retaining wall extends. First holes 21a and 21b, and second holes 22a and 22b are provided. The first holes 21a and 21b penetrate the foundation portion containing at least a part of the connection portion in a vertical direction, whose diameter d1 satisfies the following condition. The second holes 22a and 22b penetrate the wall portion in a horizontal direction, at the same places as the positions of the first holes in the first direction, whose diameter d2 satisfies the following condition. 40 mm<200 mmSELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
