To provide a surface treatment method of applying a glaze to unglazed porcelain or the like, capable of forming a glaze layer that has an aesthetic appearance, can easily be decorated, and can easily be impregnated with aroma oil.SOLUTION: The surface treatment method comprising a glaze applying process of applying a glaze 4 to unglazed porcelain 2, a process of drying the glaze 4 having been applied thereto, a calcination process of calcining the unglazed porcelain 2 to which a glaze has been applied, using a kiln, and a cooling process of cooling the resulting product subsequent to the calcination, is characterized in that the calcination process is carried out at a temperature whereat the glaze 4 is half-melted and is not made homogeneously vitreous, whereby a brooch 1 is made to have a porous and water-absorptive surface.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
