To provide a sliding member which has characteristic such as superior hardness peculiar to ceramic material, causes only small frictional resistance even when sliding under water-lubrication conditions and sliding under non-lubrication conditions are repeated by switching power source ON/OFF or the like and is applicable for long term operation.SOLUTION: A sliding member includes a base material which consists of composite ceramic containing silicon carbide 15 to 85 mass%, boron carbide 15 to 85 mass% (therein, the sum of silicon carbide and boron carbide is 100 mass%) and a sliding layer which consists of oxide containing boron formed on at least a part of surface of the base material. Therein, the surface of the sliding layer is a sliding surface and friction coefficient of the sliding surface to be measured in conformity to JIS R 1613:2010 is 0.3 or less.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
【課題】セラミックス材料特有の優れた硬度等の特性を有するとともに、電源On/OFFの切り替え等により水潤滑条件下での摺動と無潤滑条件下での摺動とを繰り返す場合であっても生ずる摩擦抵抗が低く、長期間運転に適用可能な摺動部材を提供する。【解決手段】炭化ケイ素15〜85質量%及び炭化ホウ素15〜85質量%(但し、炭化ケイ素と炭化ホウ素の合計を100質量%とする)を含有する複合セラミックスからなる基材と、基材の少なくとも一部の表面上に形成されたホウ素を含む酸化物を含有する摺動層と、を備え、摺動層の表面が摺動面であるとともに、JIS R 1613:2010に準拠して測定される摺動面の摩擦係数が0.3以下である摺動部材。【選択図】図1A
