To solve the problem in which, in a cargo handling and transport machine, when ground engaging means is brought to the ground, an engine may be overloaded and the engine may stop.SOLUTION: In a method of operating a cargo handling and transport machine, the machine includes an engine, ground engaging means, and control means selectively operable by an operator to move the ground engaging means, and the method comprises the steps of: a) starting with the ground engaging means in a first position and the engine operating at a first engine speed; b) actuating the control means to move the ground engaging means toward a second position, the actuation of the control means increasing the engine speed; and c) simultaneously deactivating the ground engaging means and deactivating the control means to allow the engine speed to decrease toward the first engine speed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
