To provide a formation method of a decorative coating surface capable of forming easily and effectively a pattern with natural shades (ombre pattern).SOLUTION: A formation method of a decorative coating surface includes a step for applying at least one kind of covering material by using a pattern roller. The pattern roller has a liquid absorbent material layer on the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical core material, and the liquid absorbent material layer is formed by mixing at least two kinds of liquid absorbent materials having each different hardness and/or density, and has a circular cross section in the radial direction.SELECTED DRAWING: None
