To provide a device and a method for diagnosing failures that can make the diagnosis in a shorter time.SOLUTION: A failure diagnosis device 1 includes: a sound acquisition unit 11 for acquiring a working sound of a hydraulic shovel 2; a primary diagnosis unit 12 for diagnosing the presence or the absence of abnormalities in sites of the hydraulic shovel 2 on the basis of the working sound acquired by the sound acquisition unit 11; a secondary diagnosis unit 13 for acquiring information on a site determined to be abnormal when the primary diagnosis unit 12 diagnoses the sites and specifying the cause of the abnormality on the basis of the acquired information; and a diagnosis result display unit 14 for displaying the result of diagnosis by the primary diagnosis unit 12 and the result of diagnosis by the secondary diagnosis unit 13.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
