To provide a method for simply and stably producing a sulfur-based composition having an effective reduction effect for suppressing elution of hexavalent chromium.SOLUTION: A method for producing a sulfur-based composition includes: a production step of producing a gas containing sulfurous acid gas and/or hydrogen sulfide; a slurry preparation step of absorbing the sulfurous acid gas and/or hydrogen sulfide contained in the gas into a raw material slurry to obtain a slurry containing sulfur-based compounds; an addition step of adding 0.01 to 10 mass% of glycol-based compounds in total to the raw material slurry and/or the slurry containing the sulfur-based compounds on the basis of a solid content contained in the raw material slurry; and a slurry concentration adjustment step of adjusting the solid content concentration of the slurry containing the sulfur-based compounds to 0.1 to 95 mass%.SELECTED DRAWING: None
