To provide a main rope installation method capable of enhancing safety in work on a roof using the main rope.SOLUTION: When installing main ropes 21, 22 on a roof 11 of a building 10, following steps are performed: a rope stretching step for stretching the two main ropes 21, 22 so as to form an X shape in a plan view in a state of being connected at an intermediate part of each other, and a safety belt connecting step for connecting a safety belt 24 to a connecting part 23 to which the respective main ropes 21, 22 are connected after the rope stretching step.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
