To provide a soil retaining device suitable for shallow trench excavation work, which is easily installable without use of a heavy machine or the like, and installable even for an excavated ditch having a narrow width.SOLUTION: A soil retaining device for excavated shallow trenches described in claim 1 comprises: a pair of plate-like members to be engaged with upper edges of an excavated trench; an extendable and detachable beam material installed between the pair of plate-like members; an inner plate installed on an excavated trench side of the plate-like member, in parallel with a longer direction of the plate-like member; and a support plate installed between both ends of the plate-like member and the inner plate.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
