To provide a safety device and an asphalt finisher.SOLUTION: A controller 50 includes a transmission control unit 51 that transmits the power of an engine to wheels W, a detection unit 52 that detects a sensing signal from a contact sensor 72, a transmission switching unit 54 that controls the transmission control unit 51, and a mode switching unit 55 that switches between enabling and disabling the control by the transmission switching unit 54. The transmission switching unit 54 is switchable between an enabled state in which the transmission control of the vehicle body by the transmission control unit 51 is enabled and a disabled state in which the transmission control is disabled. When the detection unit 52 detects the sensing signal, the transmission switching unit 54 is in the enabled state, and when the detection unit 52 does not detect the sensing signal, the transmission switching unit 54 is in the disabled state. A mode switching unit 55 enables the control by the transmission switching unit 54 when a screed 40 is at the lower position, and disables the control by the transmission switching unit 54 when the screed 40 is at the upper position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
