To provide a method for producing an unfired basic brick, capable of suppressing the generation of a low-melting material and hexavalent chromium during use, with minimal change over time after kneading.SOLUTION: A method for producing an unfired basic brick includes a step of adding an organic solvent to a refractory raw material mixture, kneading the same, and then press-forming the kneaded mixture, where the refractory raw material mixture comprises: 10 mass% or more and 60 mass% or less of at least one of magnesia chromium having a particle size of less than 1 mm and magnesia having a particle size of less than 1 mm; and 0.5 mass% or more and 10 mass% or less of at least one of magnesium sulfates and magnesium chlorides.SELECTED DRAWING: None
