The invention relates to a method for producing a hydrophobic heat-insulating molded body. A hydrophilic heat-damping molded body is brought into contact with a vaporous hydrophobizer, thereby forming a heat-insulating molded body which is coated with a hydrophobizer, and the heat-insulating molded body is then compressed and reacted with the hydrophobizer, thereby forming the hydrophobic heat-insulating molded body, during the compression process and/or subsequently thereto, wherein a) the hydrophobic heat-insulating molded body has a density of 100 - 250 kg/m3 after the compression process and after being reacted with the hydrophobizer, and b) the hydrophilic heat-insulating molded body has a density which is 50% to less than 100% of the density of the hydrophobic heat-insulating molded body when brought into contact with the hydrophobizer.
