Накладку располагают на подрельсовом участке шпалы и крепят к шпале хомутом. В подрельсовом участке шпалы выполняют канавку, в которой размещают хомут. Ширину и глубину канавки выбирают в зависимости от ширины и толщины хомута. Канавку размещают посередине подрельсовой площадки. Достигается упрощение узла крепления накладного выступа к шпале.
