The meshing unit assembly has a latch that can rotate to a latch position from an open position through a door ajar position by meshing with the striker. The operating unit assembly has a casing in which the meshing unit assembly is fit and in which the operating mechanism is mounted, and a switch plate that is mounted to be integrated with the casing and in which a door ajar detecting switch having a switch pin that is pushed by abutting the latch that is in the open position and the door ajar position or in the latch position, and electric wiring connected to the same are incorporated. The plane of rotation of the latch intersects at right angles with the plate face of the switch plate. Thus, a vehicle door latching device is provided that can improve assembly efficiency.
