POLYCRYSTALLINE DIAMOND CONSTRUCTIONS
A polycrystalline diamond (PCD) construction has a first region with a first set of one or more strata comprising a first grade of PCD material and a second set of strata comprising a second grade of PCD material. The first set is arranged in an alternating configuration with the second set, the alternating strata being bonded to each other by direct inter-growth of diamond grains. The strata in the first set have a greater average thickness than the strata in the second set. The first grade of PCD material differs from the second in one or more of diamond and metal network compositional ratio, metal elemental composition, or average diamond grain size. One or more of the strata in the first set may have a smaller average diamond grain size than strata in the second region and/or a greater volume percentage of residual catalyst/binder than one or more strata in the second region.
L'invention concerne une structure de diamant polycristallin (DPC), présentant une première région avec un premier ensemble d'une ou de plusieurs strates comprenant une première qualité de matériau de DPC, et un second ensemble de strates comprenant une seconde qualité de matériau de DPC. Le premier ensemble est agencé dans une configuration alternée avec le second ensemble, les strates alternées étant liées les unes aux autres par une inter-croissance directe de grains de diamant. Les strates du premier ensemble présentent une épaisseur moyenne plus élevée que celle des strates dans le second ensemble. La première qualité de matériau de DPC diffère de la seconde dans un ou plusieurs éléments parmi le rapport de composition de diamant et de réseau métallique, la composition élémentaire métallique et la taille moyenne de grain de diamant. Une ou plusieurs des strates du premier ensemble peuvent présenter une taille de grain de diamant moyenne plus petite que les strates dans la seconde région et/ou un pourcentage de volume de catalyseur/liant résiduel plus élevé que celui d'une ou plusieurs strates dans la seconde région.
