A method and apparatus used to secure a faucet (10) to a countertop (32) includes a brace (24) with legs (40) joined together at a nut (42), thereby allowing the legs (40) to pivot about a horizontal axis of the nut (42). The nut (42) is joined to a threaded rod (22) that extends from a base (8) of the faucet (10). The legs (40) of the brace (24) in a mounting state are pivoted such that the legs (40) are both parallel to the threaded rod (22) with one part of the brace (24) above the horizontal axis of the nut (42) and one part of the brace (24) below the horizontal axis of the nut (42). The threaded rod (22) and brace (24) may then be inserted into a countertop mounting hole (52). The threaded rod (22) is rotated from above the countertop (32), thereby drawing the brace (24) towards the countertop (32) and securing the faucet (10).
