The present invention relates to a butt-coupling rebar coupler having a gap compensation function and a coupling method, which belong to the field of construction engineering. The butt-coupling rebar coupler comprises a first coupling sleeve configured to be connected to a first rebar and a second coupling sleeve configured to be connected to a second rebar, and further comprises a rebar coupler body for coupling the first coupling sleeve and the second coupling sleeve, wherein the rebar coupler body comprises a bolt assembly and a screw assembly, the bolt assembly being connected to the screw assembly; the bolt assembly comprises a bolt and a coupling threaded insert, one end of the bolt being a bolt head, the other end of the bolt being a bolt shank, and the bolt head and the bolt shank being coaxially arranged; and the screw assembly comprises a screw, one end of the screw being a screw head, the other end of the screw shank being a screw shank, and the screw head and the screw shank being coaxially arranged.
