Photostruk – Uniting Science and Humanities for the Reconstruction of Lost Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscape
The paper presents the challenges and results of collaborative cross-disciplinary work in the virtual reconstruction of sites and landscape in the Šumava / Nové Hrady border regions (project PhotoStruk Czech Republic). Prevalently German-settled villages were wholy or partly destroyed in the aftermath of WWII, with little remains left in situ and landscape transformed by subsequent forestation, military training and Vltava water reservoir system. The paper presents cooperation between IT and historians/archaeologists that aims to reconstruct lost landscape based on historical and archaeological records (esp. historical photographs) and using up-to-date reconstruction and IT methods (incl. LIDAR scanning, crowdsourcing, mapping, photogrametry, 3D modelling, 3D printing).
