A Study on the Basic Hydraulic Characteristics of S-shaped Overflow Weirs
In this paper, FLOW-3D is used to simulate the 3D flow field of an S-shaped overflow weir for systematic analysis of the hydraulic characteristics of the water flowing through the weir, including the flow pattern, discharge capacity, and dissipation rate. In terms of the flow pattern, it changed significantly after water with different heights of hydraulic heads flowed through the S-shaped overflow weir. In terms of the discharge capacity, it significantly improved as calculated by comparing the flow coefficient m and the excess discharge ratio r. In terms of other basic hydraulic characteristics, the critical control section of the S-shaped overflow weir moved downstream with the increase of the relative hydraulic head, and the flow velocity distribution of the central section was quite different from that of both ends is quite. As the relative hydraulic head increased, an obvious low-pressure area appeared above the overflow weir, which significantly expanded as the hydraulic head went higher.
